Police in Tokyo’s Ota Ward said Sunday they have arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of attempting to abduct an eight-year-old girl on Oct 25.
According to police, Tomoya Kobori, a vocational school student, is suspected of trying to entice the girl into his car as she walked home in the afternoon. He reportedly asked the girl if she’d like to get into his car and go for a ride.
When the girl pressed an anti-crime alarm she had with her, Kobori drove away.
Police said Kobori was arrested after his car was identified through street surveillance camera footage. Police said he has admitted to the charge and said he just wanted to make friends with a child with whom he could go playing in a park.
Police are questioning Kobori over other reported cases of a man calling out to children from his car in the same area recently.
